The SEC Doesn’t Want to Be in the Biz of Picking ETF Winners
Wednesday, July 1, 2026
The Securities and Exchange Commission is reconsidering its approach to ETF oversight, according to SEC Chair Gary Gensler. Gensler stated the agency would focus on ensuring ETFs meet disclosure and operational standards rather than evaluating which products should be approved based on their potential success. The SEC has faced criticism from ETF sponsors who contend the regulator has delayed approvals for certain funds. Gensler did not specify which oversight changes the agency plans to implement or provide a timeline for any policy shifts.
