Archaeologists working in İznik, Turkey, discovered a smaller church located beneath the Church of the Holy Fathers. The find may be connected to the First Council of Nicaea, a fourth-century gathering of Christian bishops. The Council of Nicaea took place in 325 CE and produced the Nicene Creed, a foundational statement of Christian doctrine.
