Emerging-Market Stocks, Currencies Gain After Soft US Jobs Data
Monday, August 10, 2026
Emerging-market stocks and currencies rose Monday after the U.S. reported 227,000 jobs added in December, below economist expectations. The weaker-than-forecast employment data reduced market expectations for Federal Reserve interest rate increases in coming months. The S&P 500 fell 0.8 percent and the Nasdaq declined 1.2 percent on the day, while emerging-market indices gained as investors shifted toward higher-risk assets.
