Poll: Voters See Political Parties as More Extreme Than Their Own Candidates

A New York Times/Siena poll of battleground state voters found that respondents viewed the national Democratic and Republican parties as more ideologically extreme than their respective party nominees. Voters surveyed characterized the parties themselves as further to the right or left than the candidates running for office. The poll did not specify which party voters perceived as more extreme overall.
