Romania Extends Reactor Output by Nine Days After Danube Blasts

Sunday, August 9, 2026

Romania's nuclear regulatory authority extended operations at the Cernavoda nuclear plant's second reactor for nine additional days following explosive works on the Danube River that increased water flow by 4 centimeters. The plant requires river water for cooling purposes. Explosive operations on the Danube raised water levels sufficiently to maintain adequate cooling capacity beyond the initially scheduled shutdown date.
