He's been frozen on Everest for 30 years, now 'Green Boots' may finally be coming home

The remains of Tsewang Paljor, an Indian climber who died on Mount Everest in 1996, may be recovered and returned to his family. Paljor's body has remained on the mountain near the Hillary Step since his death during a storm on the descent from the summit. His distinctive green climbing boots made his remains a recognizable landmark for subsequent climbers on the standard route. A 2024 expedition team retrieved Paljor's remains and transported them to lower elevations, with plans to return them to India for cremation according to his family's wishes.
