Microsoft Edge is about to lock out older ad blockers, just like Chrome did

Friday, August 7, 2026

Microsoft announced it will end support for Manifest V2 extensions, the platform used by uBlock Origin and similar ad blockers. According to Microsoft, 58 extensions on the Edge Add-On Store with meaningful usage still rely on MV2, with three of those being ad blockers. Google Chrome completed a similar transition earlier in 2025.
