Zohran Mamdani, a New York state assemblymember, spoke in a 2016 radio interview while promoting a Disney film directed by his mother Mira Nair. The interview resurfaced online, with some commenters noting differences between his accent in that recording and his typical speaking voice. Mamdani was born in the United States to filmmaker Mira Nair and businessman Rajesh Masrani, both of whom have ties to Uganda.
