U.S. economy unexpectedly lost 23,000 jobs in July

Nonfarm payrolls decreased by 23,000 in July, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had projected an increase of 83,000 jobs for the month. The unemployment rate remained at 4.2% in July.
