Big Medicare change slashes weight-loss drug costs for eligible seniors
Wednesday, July 1, 2026
Medicare is launching a new GLP-1 Bridge program on July 1 that will make the weight-loss drugs Wegovy and Zepbound available to eligible seniors for $50 per month. The program applies to Medicare beneficiaries age 65 and older with a body mass index of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with weight-related conditions. Previously, these medications were not covered by Medicare and cost hundreds of dollars per month through private insurance or out-of-pocket purchases.
