Philippine Economy Grows at Slowest Pace Since 2009 Ex-Covid
Friday, August 7, 2026
The Philippine economy grew at 2.9 percent in the second quarter of 2026, down from 5.2 percent in the first quarter. The slowdown was attributed to elevated inflation linked to Middle East developments, which reduced consumer spending and business investment. This marked the slowest quarterly growth rate since 2009, excluding the pandemic-affected period.
