Melat Kiros becomes 28th far-left candidate to win a Democratic primary this year as socialists amass power

Melat Kiros won the Democratic primary in Colorado's 1st congressional district, defeating 15-term incumbent Diana DeGette. Kiros received endorsement from the Democratic Socialists of America. The primary took place on June 25, 2024. DeGette had represented the district since 1997.
