Myanmar's Min Aung Hlaing arrives in Thailand on first trip as civilian leader

Thursday, August 6, 2026

Myanmar's Min Aung Hlaing traveled to Thailand on what Thai officials confirmed was his first international trip since stepping down as military commander. Min Aung Hlaing, who led Myanmar's military junta from 2021 to 2023, has been indicted by the International Criminal Court and is subject to arrest warrants in multiple jurisdictions. Thailand has not signed the ICC treaty and does not extradite individuals to the court.
