Ousted Bangladeshi leader vows to return from exile despite facing a death sentence

Sheikh Hasina, who fled Bangladesh in August 2024 following two months of protests, made a statement marking the second anniversary of her departure. The UN documented approximately 1,400 deaths during the period of civil unrest that preceded her exit. Hasina departed by helicopter and is currently in exile. Bangladesh's government has issued a death sentence against her in absentia.
