Judge reluctantly dismisses case against Oath Keepers militia group over Jan. 6 riot

A federal judge dismissed the Justice Department's case against Oath Keepers leaders on March 14, 2026, after prosecutors requested the dismissal. Former prosecutors issued statements warning that the dismissal could affect how the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot is understood. The case had charged Oath Keepers members with seditious conspiracy related to their conduct on that date.
