PlayStation will end physical disc production for new games in 2028

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced Wednesday that it will discontinue manufacturing physical discs for new PlayStation games beginning in 2028. The company stated the shift aligns with its strategy to transition toward digital distribution. Existing PlayStation 5 consoles will continue to support physical media through a disc drive accessory. Sony did not specify whether the change would apply to all game releases or only new titles going forward.
