Trump killed the Digital Equity Act, but US was forced to bring part of it back

Tuesday, August 4, 2026

President Trump's administration terminated the Digital Equity Act in early 2025, but a federal judge ruled that a race-based provision of the program violated constitutional law. The administration subsequently restored a $1.25 billion portion of the program that did not include the race-conscious eligibility criteria. The restored funding supports broadband access and digital literacy initiatives without the demographic targeting component the judge found unconstitutional.
