'Inevitable' US, Iran Will See More Volatility In Coming Months, Says Suzanne Maloney

Tuesday, August 4, 2026

Suzanne Maloney, vice president and director for foreign policy at The Brookings Institution, stated that volatility between the US and Iran will continue in coming months regardless of whether the countries reach an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz. Maloney said volatility will be a "function of Persian Gulf economics for the foreseeable future." She also said the availability of munitions has been driving strategic decision-making for some time, according to Bloomberg.
