Reporter's Notebook: Inside the Senate showdown over Trump's push to scrap August recess

Former President Donald Trump called for the Senate to cancel its August recess until passage of legislation requiring proof of citizenship to vote. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the chamber would not alter its scheduled recess. The bill, titled the SAVE America Act, has not yet passed either chamber of Congress.
