Texans' Jalen Pitre named first-ever NFL Guardian Cap athlete in league history: 'Evolution of the game'
Tuesday, August 4, 2026
Jalen Pitre, safety for the Houston Texans, was named the first athlete to wear the NFL Guardian Cap, a protective headgear covering designed to reduce impact during play. The league introduced the Guardian Cap as an optional piece of equipment in 2023 and officially approved it for game use in 2024. Pitre said the device represents "an evolution of the game." The NFL has allowed players to voluntarily adopt the Guardian Cap as part of its ongoing player safety initiatives.
