Breast cancer checks missing most women under 50 who are at risk, says study

Researchers found that current National Health Service breast cancer screening practices identify fewer than 5% of women under 50 who have genetic or family risk factors for the disease. The study examined NHS screening protocols, which typically target women aged 50 and older through mammography programs. Women under 50 with documented family history or genetic mutations associated with increased breast cancer risk are generally not included in routine screening invitations.
