Capital One says it closed Trump Organization accounts over money-laundering concerns
Sunday, August 2, 2026
Capital One stated that it closed accounts affiliated with the Trump Organization in 2021 following an internal review related to money-laundering concerns, according to a filing in which the bank asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Trump-affiliated businesses. The bank attributed the account closures to the results of its internal compliance review rather than to events on January 6, 2021. The lawsuit was brought by businesses affiliated with former President Donald Trump challenging the closures.
