Socialist Spanish PM blasts Meloni over restored border controls after Ceuta surge, demands emergency meeting

Spain's prime minister Pedro Sánchez said Europe's response to Italy's suspension of Schengen Area free-travel arrangements with Spain was "selfish" and "unlawful." Italy suspended the arrangements after a surge of migrants reached the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Sánchez requested an emergency meeting to address the matter. Italy's prime minister Giorgia Meloni had reinstated border controls between the two countries in response to the migration situation.
