Saudi Arabia Proposes ‘Maritime Defense Coalition’ for Red Sea

Saudi Arabia held a planning session Thursday for a proposed maritime defense coalition intended to secure shipping routes through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and Gulf of Aden. The coalition would address piracy and terrorism in the Red Sea region. The Houthis, a Yemeni armed group, have conducted attacks on commercial vessels in the area in recent years.
