China could supply EV manufacturing boom with recycled EVs

Friday, July 31, 2026

The chemistry of lithium-ion batteries and electric motor components can be recovered and reused in new EV manufacturing, according to materials science analysis. China operates the world's largest EV recycling capacity, processing discarded batteries and motors to extract materials including lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements. The recovered materials can be reintegrated into new battery and motor production, reducing dependence on primary mining for EV manufacturing supply chains.
