China's factory activity unexpectedly contracts in July, ending 4-month expansion streak

China's official manufacturing purchasing managers' index fell to 49.2 in July from 50.3 in June, according to data released Friday by the National Bureau of Statistics. A reading below 50 indicates contraction in factory activity. The decline ended four consecutive months of expansion in the index.
