India Seeks Sunflower Oil Alternatives on Black Sea Disruptions

Thursday, July 30, 2026

India, which imported 60 percent of its sunflower oil from Black Sea region suppliers in 2024, is increasing purchases of palm oil and soybean oil due to supply disruptions and reduced domestic production from below-average monsoon rainfall. India's vegetable oil imports declined 8 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year, according to the Solvent Extractors' Association of India. The country is negotiating with suppliers in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Argentina to boost shipments of alternative oils.
