US Consumers Continue to Grow More Cautious

The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index declined in July, reflecting deterioration in Americans' assessments of current business conditions and labor market strength. Gasoline and food prices remained elevated during the period. Julia Wilson, Principal of Consumer & Retail Strategy at KPMG, attributed weakness partly to back-to-school spending pressures on household budgets.
