Google kills Tenor GIF API, forcing changes at X, Discord, and more
Tuesday, June 30, 2026
Google announced it will shut down the Tenor GIF application programming interface, requiring third-party platforms including X and Discord to find alternative GIF sources. The Tenor service will continue to operate within Google's own applications. The company did not provide a specific shutdown date in available statements. Platforms that currently integrate Tenor's API will need to transition to other GIF providers or develop their own solutions.
