eBay pays $46M to journalists it targeted in bizarre harassment campaign

Tuesday, July 28, 2026

eBay agreed to pay 46 million dollars to settle a lawsuit filed by journalists who were targeted by the company's security team between 2019 and 2020. The company sent packages to journalists' homes containing items including a bloody pig mask, funeral wreaths, and other items as part of a harassment campaign. eBay's former security director pleaded guilty to conspiracy and cyberstalking charges related to the campaign in 2022. The settlement was announced on the company's request to resolve the civil case without admitting wrongdoing.
