Leveraged ETFs are booming in 2026. But they’re also being shut down at a record pace.

Leveraged exchange-traded funds, which use debt and derivatives to amplify returns on market movements, closed at a record pace in 2026. These funds allow investors to make magnified bets on both upward and downward price swings across stocks and other financial instruments. The closures occurred even as new leveraged ETFs launched during the same period.
