Half of government should be female, Labour women tell Burnham

Andy Burnham, mayor of Manchester and Labour leadership candidate, was urged by female Labour MPs to commit to appointing women to half of all government positions if he becomes prime minister. The MPs, whose names were not disclosed in reporting, said Labour should demonstrate a commitment to gender equality in senior roles. Burnham has not publicly responded to the request.
