If You Think ICE Detention is Bad Now, Privatization Will Make It Worse
Monday, July 27, 2026
The Trump administration announced plans to expand use of private detention facilities for Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, according to statements from administration officials in 2026. Private prison operators including Core Civic and The GEO Group have received increased contract proposals from the Department of Homeland Security. The shift expands on existing private detention arrangements, which held approximately 73 percent of ICE detainees as of 2025 according to government data.
