JONATHAN TURLEY: Birthright citizenship ruling leaves conservatives with only one path

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 on June 28, 2024, that birthright citizenship is protected under the Fourteenth Amendment. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined the three liberal justices in the majority. Justice Clarence Thomas wrote a dissenting opinion arguing the amendment's text does not guarantee birthright citizenship to children born to non-citizen parents.
