New York City Mayor Mamdani had stated he would consider arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if Netanyahu visited the city, citing an International Criminal Court warrant. Mamdani later withdrew the statement, noting he did not have legal authority to enforce an ICC warrant. Netanyahu responded by accusing Mamdani of fomenting hate. The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in November 2024 related to alleged war crimes in Gaza.
