Big Tech accused of stonewalling European social media researchers

TikTok, X, and Meta have not provided researchers with data access that European Union regulations require, according to researchers conducting studies on social media platforms. The EU's Digital Services Act mandates that platforms grant independent researchers access to algorithmic and user data for safety and transparency studies. Researchers said the companies either denied requests outright or imposed restrictions that made the data unusable for their work. The companies have not publicly commented on the specific allegations.
