CBP intercepted biological materials tied to U.S.–China virus network before COVID, new documents show

U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted undeclared biological materials in 2018 that were connected to a coronavirus research network involving U.S. and China institutions, according to documents released by Senator Rand Paul. The documents did not specify the contents of the materials or their intended destination. Paul's office stated the materials were part of a network studying coronaviruses prior to the 2019-2020 COVID-19 pandemic.
