The Supreme Court stops Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship

Tuesday, June 30, 2026

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that birthright citizenship cannot be ended by executive order. Birthright citizenship is established under the 14th Amendment, ratified in 1868, which grants citizenship to people born in the United States. President Donald Trump had sought to end this right through executive action. The court's decision upheld the existing constitutional provision.
